Hands

I chose the hand to represent the self for its dynamic physical qualities and for its universal identity that does not reference a specific individual.  The string-tied hand reacts to its constraints with varying degrees of movement.  There is a psychological and physical tension between hand and string that suggests the engagement between external forces and internal impulses.  The push and pull of will and bond are inextricably tied together.  One is bound to the nature of dualities that define the self.
